What's Going On?

I should be finishing up packing, and i am sure i will get to that.

I have attempted to watch Lions for Lambs, twice now. the movie looks good. I just can't seem to get around the switching between the two stories at this time. Maybe my brain is getting old.

I managed to see Wanted this weekend. It's a really good action movie. It has some incredible sequences. I can even suspend my disbelief to imagine, it is possible to purposely curve a bullet. (well at least until the end). Angelina is hot, as usual.

I have canceled my Everquest 2 account, and did not renew my Age of Conan subscription. So my computer gaming currently consists of Free-Cell. Which i play while listening to I-tunes. (all my CDs being packed sort of sucks).

I was just listening to a song, a friend recommend to me, well didn't really recommend but said it reminded her of me. I really like the lyrics. So i think i have now heard it like 5 or 6 times consecutively. Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved. 'My heart is full and my door is always open'

I have been reading some interesting stories.

A 9-12 year old baseball league canceled their all-star game. because it sets some players as better than others. I understand the idea that we play to have fun. but when did it come to the point where we can't have both Fun and Competitiveness. So in order to save some kids the "Ultimate Humiliation' of not being the best, we celebrate mediocrity. And people wonder why as a nation we are quickly be caught by other countries in innovation and invention.

The other interesting article spoke of "Yellow Science" a play on the phrase "Yellow Journalism". Very intriguing how science is slowing(some hastily) moving away from the 'Scientific Method' and heading in the direction of laziness and unprovable doctrines.

I move into my new place some time this week. waiting for the call to give me the "OK, Apartments ready!"

Packing and Moving

Well for those in the know, I finally found an affordable place that will soon become my place of residence. I am in the process of packing up my shit, and throwing away my stuff, scratch that, packing my stuff, and throwing away my shit.

Ok, I am not throwing away all my shit. I am hoping to get some cash for all my VHS tapes, Some Books, and CDs that i know longer need. but i am still throwing away what seems to be about equal to what i am attempting to sell, which together seems to be about equal to the stuff i am keeping.

How i managed to acquire so much stuff sometimes amazes me. I have so many Hot Wheels, Starting Lineups and Todd MacFarlane Toys. I might just open my shop. Watch Ebay if any of that interests you, it will all be there in the near future.

I would certainly like to keep more stuff then I am. but space has become a resource I need to be weary of.

I have already boxed up all my CDs, emptying a 300 disk CD changer is not fun. but i was pleasantly surprised to find I had only one CD with no Jewel Case, and One Jewel case with no CD. (Yes, they don't go together). Sometimes being a pack-rat pays off. Next Job is to finish up my DVDs I am about 1/4 done packing them and I am out of Totes. ugh, I have come to abhor boxes. but Once i am done with those, All i have left to pack is Clothes, Dishes, Furniture, and Essentials(computer, and TV). LOL and i don't move in 'til next week.

Well I need to get ready for this weekend. Dog-sitting for the sister. Woohoo!!

Henry viii

So, I am totally getting my fill of this dude. Last week the complete second season of The Tudors. Then a viewing of The Other Boleyn Girl. Only to follow that up with the complete first season of The Tudors. (which at the time of this writing i still have four episodes left to watch)

Yes, yes, it was certainly not my intention to watch the second season first, but it was all OnDemand offered and until i procured a copy of the first season. I really wanted to see if it was any good. I have to say, it was GOOD. Excellent writing, wonderful character, and a great story.

I can however say for certain, if i were to have watched the first season first, I may not have given the second season a chance. The second season just seemed cleaner, the actors had formed the characters they played. the plot was more meaty. Now i will acknowledge it is hard to say for sure. Knowing before hand what the characters become, the roles may feel more shallow, then the would if i had no prior knowledge of them. But i am not by a mile saying the first season was bad.

But that brings me to the movie The Other Boleyn Girl. Before I get to the comparisons, I will say I did, like most movies, enjoy the flick. although it was nothing spectacular. Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson, were their normal unbelievably beautiful selves.

Now, I will be the last to try to pass myself off as a English historian. So, of the two story lines, which is more historically accurate, I will not debate. But which is more, thematic, I would say, the movie packed in more drama, claiming Mary Boleyn had a son by Henry. But in the end trying to tell a story in less then two hours that is currently being told in a serial, gives no comparison. with sheer depth The Tudors can explore, it is far superior. And as much as I love Natalie Portman(and i do Love her), Natalie Dormer has the character down. You are always left with this strange confliction, is she truely pure at heart, or is she the 'devil incarnate'. She actually reminds me a lot of this girl I know(but that is tale for a different day).

I truly can not wait to finish season 1, and I wait very impatiently for season 3, and beyond.
But before then, Dexter Season 3 begins this fall. I will talk about my love of that show in a later blog.

So kudos to Showtime on overthrowing HBO's hold on me, for great television. well at least until the next season of Entourage.

Money and Drugs

Can't be certain if this is occurring in only my area, or if this is a trend nationwide. Banks and Pharmacies abound.

It would seem the two major industries in America are Money and Drugs!

In my area alone, (and I am not talking about the city i live in, I am talking about within a 15 minutes drive) there are 7 to 10 locations of national pharmacy chains, 5 to 7 big box stores, including discount retailer and grocery stores, with pharmacies inside. It would seem the drugging of America has no boundaries. If it ails you, we have a pill to fix it, or at least make you feel better about it. But I ask, if pharmaceuticals are so expensive, so outrageously priced, what is the need for the countless number of banks?

Again in my area alone. There are easily over 20 different banks. Including several with multiple branch offices, and yet another one in the process of being built. Are people really saving that much money. Or are they just borrowing it? And if the answer is borrowing, I certainly hope someone is saving, or the banks are loaning money they don't have.

I personally have nothing against the multiple places to get and store money, or to buy pharmaceuticals. The more competition, the better for the consumer. But If that theory holds true with banks and pharmacies, shouldn't it hold true with anything else. Like maybe schools, or energy. two things this country could definitely use some form of competition.

Better, Cheaper, More Reliable.

Here is to hoping the next major industry shift is to Education and Energy. Once we get that Straightened, Maybe we can start manufacturing stuff again.

Gas Prices, and Record Profits

Not sure if starting out on such a hot-bed issue is a good thing, but i am extremely tired of all this talk about how making a profit is a bad thing. So what if Oil companies get rich. It really doesn't matter how much they charge for gas, they are still going to make sure they make money. They didn't go into business to lose money. As long as we as a society continue to buy gas and oil in record amounts, oil companies are going to continue to make record profits.

Quite honestly, that is not a bad thing. PROFITS ARE GOOD!!! Profits mean companies have more money to research better ways of distribution, more efficient ways of production, and, all in all, ways to save themselves and in turn the consumer money. Maybe I am an optimist in thinking this. But i have never once seen a company turn down the opportunity to make the production of their product less expensive.

What really makes gas prices so damn expensive is not greed, but the over regulation and Orwellian control over all aspects of energy production. Let lose some of these ties and watch as energy companies give us the means to cut our dependency on oil cartels. Give them the opportunity, and they just might surprise. Continue to regulate and control, and snuff out all chance of innovation.

First Volley

So you have come to read my first blog ever.

Why would I, of all people, blog? Mainly cause I have tried other things, and they never seem to stick. Although, I am not sure what would draw someone to read my rantings. I assure you at some point you will be entertained, at other points you will be bored, and yet other points you may just be annoyed.

What do I intend to blog about? Mainly anything that crosses my mind. Politics, Movies, Music, Games, Television, Books, Work. Basically anything and everything that interests me.

How often do I intend to blog? Whenever it suits my fancy. Hopefully more often then, the countless journals I have started.

Who am I? I am Midwestern Middle-aged Male. I am not rich, but i am certainly not poor. I am single(but always looking). I like being entertained, as well as entertaining. I read a lot. I watch a lot of television, and a lot of movies. I play a lot of games. I am conservative politically but don't hold that against me. I believe the government should just butt out of our lives. I believe that Americans are much better off, as people and as citizens, when left alone.

Enough 'about' the blog.
