Not sure if starting out on such a hot-bed issue is a good thing, but i am extremely tired of all this talk about how making a profit is a bad thing. So what if Oil companies get rich. It really doesn't matter how much they charge for gas, they are still going to make sure they make money. They didn't go into business to lose money. As long as we as a society continue to buy gas and oil in record amounts, oil companies are going to continue to make record profits.
Quite honestly, that is not a bad thing. PROFITS ARE GOOD!!! Profits mean companies have more money to research better ways of distribution, more efficient ways of production, and, all in all, ways to save themselves and in turn the consumer money. Maybe I am an optimist in thinking this. But i have never once seen a company turn down the opportunity to make the production of their product less expensive.
What really makes gas prices so damn expensive is not greed, but the over regulation and Orwellian control over all aspects of energy production. Let lose some of these ties and watch as energy companies give us the means to cut our dependency on oil cartels. Give them the opportunity, and they just might surprise. Continue to regulate and control, and snuff out all chance of innovation.
