I apologize for this interuption, but i am curious of what those that read this blog think.
If you want to just post a comment and answer the questions, it would be appreciated. There is nothing scientific about this little poll, just a curiousity on my part.
1) What is rich? (simple question, at what point do your earnings make you rich. $100,000; $250,000; $1,000,000)
2) How much should the rich pay in taxes? (two questions in one, what percentage of their income should go toward taxes, and how much of the total tax burden should be put to them)
Again, I appreciate your replies, I truly feel that the majority of my readers will make the effort to do some research, but i implore you if you haven't already, post first what you feel, then again, if you would like to adjust your answer after you have researched the facts.

1) Officially I believe the criteria for being rich is having assets totaling over 3 million dollars worth. Regardless financially I believe you can be rich easily making 100,000 dollars a year if you spend your money wisely and would easily be set for life with inflation. You would have money to flaunt a little bit and money to avoid getting into much debt and be able to pay off a house fairly quickly.
2) As far as making the rich pay taxes, no one wants to be taxed, but realistically these people are the ones that can afford to be taxed the most. Plain and simple if we don't want to hurt the poor and the the middle class, but want to be closer to a more equal society for everyone (/shrug communism) then we need to tax the wealthy so that others may not suffer as much of a financial burden. Note there is also an equal argument from the opposing view, but the trickle down method does not work... more thoughts later possibly.

Dan,interesting answers, and quite mind bending. First your statement that trickle down doesn't work, is quite debatable. but you failed to answer the second question. I never asked if you feel the rich should pay more than the poor. The fact is they do and always will(even under the Fair Tax Act). The question was how much should they pay? Should the rich, In your case those that make %100,000/yr or more pay 75%, 85%, 95% of the total tax burden? should 20%, 30%, 40% of their income go to the Federal Government?
My curiousity in this endeavor is to find out what average people expect of the rich, and how does it compare to what they are currently being asked to do.
Realistically I need to do more research to come up with a proper answer. I don't want to just use a blanket statement that wouldn't make me feel good at all, or be respectful to the rich. Realistically you need to do see, how rich the wealthy truly are, and then you can judge from that standpoint.

See, I knew my readers were too smart for this.
Once you have the time, no need to stress over it. but i am glad you will look up the facts at some point. Hopefully before you are one of the wealthy.
