Sowell is intelligent, and also fairly far to the right.
I wish he didn't make the assumption that everyone on the left is all for community service, and everyone on the right... we don't know about for certain actually.
I'm all for having every person work and work hard. I believe it give individuals a sense of responsibility and allows them to give a contribution to society.
Unfortunately at this time I don't feel we can all contribute to society even if we wanted to. Basically we are all going to suffer short term because of the economy because even if people want jobs they are going to have trouble getting them.
Sowell is way to the right on economics. Capitalism for the win. The free market is a cruel bitch, but it is also the best way to find out who wins and who loses.
If you mess up, you shouldn't be given government hand outs because of it. If people lose their jobs it hurts, but it is the cycle that continues. some other company will step in and hire those people eventually. It happens all the time. And even quicker when the government doesn't cherry pick who gets what and just lets the free market fix itself.
