Not to play Devil's advocate because I don't know everything about Obama or McCain but I'm sure McCain has never changed his mind on anything or never flip flopped on anything, and has always held the same ideals. /sarcasm off
To be realistic this is fairly scary, to think about, and maybe he is putting his foot in his mouth quite a bit.
First off the idea of campaigning with out accepting money would be amazing and if this came to pass it would be nice, but someone's opponent will always want to outdo them and therefore the idea of not accepting funds from the public is going to be quite rare. I think he realized that he could not do anywhere near as well with out funds and therefore he changed his mind.
On the other topics and on using Coal in nature he wants to try to stop coal emissions but I believe he also wants to try and help make cleaner burning coal in the process if at all possible so they don't have to pay as much for the emissions.
On the other points I lack the knowledge to comment accurately enough but I agree with you that this does appear rather scary and should be watched as time progresses. We do need someone with leadership leading our country and I really hope Obama can help us as a president to be more respected from a world view and help us all as Americans.
Your assessment is accurate, save one, I don't understand why 'we' are so concerned with how the world feels about us. It seems to me, no matter what we do, the rest of the world will never be happy, well until we can no longer be considered the litmus test of greatness.
Go to any other country in the world and they always compare themselves to the USA.
As far as McCain back pedalling or changing his opinion. I am sure he has. I never was a big fan of his. If you noticed, during the campaign. I never voiced much agreeance with his policies. My main goal was not to have a single party be able to push to a single sided policy. If history can show us anything Policies that help NYC or LA, don't always equate to positive to Minot or Junction(ND and TX, respectvilly)
I have several friends who frequently travel to various countries in Europe, and this idea that everybody hates the US is bull. Granted, I think most Europeans wanted BO to be president, presumably so the US can be as mediocre as Europe...
That is my point. the majority of the Europeans that rip on America aren't ripping on Her, because She is awful. They rip on Her, because She is too darn good, and it makes them look all the worse. So if you want to live in a socially/morally ambiguous world, or in a nanny state. There are plenty of choice in the world. But if you want to live in the greatest Country on the planet, there is but one.
